New Years Questionnaire

I found this questionnaire on one of my favorite blogs. I thought it was a bit more interesting than the typical ones that float around. It was a thought provoking re-cap of 2008, that's for sure!

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before? Got Married!

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year? New Years is just a great time for me to re-group on goals and ideals that I am continually working on. I adapt them to where I am in life...

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Well, a friend from work did...

4. Did anyone close to you die? No

5. What countries did you visit? MEXICO! On our Honeymoon!

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? Money enough to pay off a couple student loans.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? September 27, because it was our wedding day!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Growing up enough to live forgiveness...

9. What was your biggest failure? With the wedding (and many other things) this year was pretty much just a high for me. I'm not saying I didn't fail, but I don't think I dropped the ball anywhere in TOO monstrous a way...I hope!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Not at all!

11. What was the best thing you bought? Hmm, I think the tickets to the Tigers game for Dorian on his birthday. I think it's fair to say that I ahem, "hit it out of the park" with that one...heh, couldn't resist!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? I guess I feel most celebratory toward the people that stood for what they believed in this year...

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I think 'stunned' describes this person's behavior better, to me...someone who doesn't take responsibility for their actions...I just can't wrap my mind around that.

14. Where did most of your money go? Wedding and moving

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Marrying my best friend!

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? "All my Life" by KC and JoJo

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a.) happier or sadder? happier!
b.) thinner or fatter? thinner
c.) richer or poorer? richer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? I wish I could have spent more time enjoying the seasons...but on the other hand, spending that time planning a wedding was so much fun and a once in a lifetime opportunity.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Worrying about and hurting over things I can't change...

20. How did you spend Christmas? With Dorian's (my!) family in New York. Amazing!

21. Did you fall in love in 2008? Not for the first time, but yes...over and over again every day!

22. Do you hate anyone that you didn't hate this time last year? I don't hate...I would honestly like to give a few people a piece of my mind...but there's no sense in wasting emotion on hating them.

23. What was your favorite TV program? The Office

24. What was the best book you read? The Shack

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Listening to my Sister-in-Law sing.

26. What did you want and get? An incredibly special wedding day!

27. What did you want and not get? Honestly, nothing!

28. What was your favorite film of this year? Ha! "Madagascar 2" I'm a dork.

29. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you? I turned 24 and had an amazing girl's night with some fantastic friends.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? I don't think it's possibly to have been any more happy or satisfied!

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? More attention to style than any time before in my life.

32. What kept you sane? Dorian and Alisa's constant love and support

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? The ones that didn't flaunt their political opinions. And I love Jennifer Garner. She's gorgeous!

34. What political issue stirred you the most? The lack of tolerance.

35. Who did you miss? My cousin Mary!

36. Who was the best person you met? Oh wow, I met quite a few amazing people this year...I can't decide between them all!

37. Tell us a valuable lesson you learned in 2008. Don't get so wrapped up in the little things because you'll miss the importance, thrill, and significance of the bigger picture!

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. "When God made you, He must have been thinking about me..." When God Made You by Newsong and Natalie Grant

I'm a Newbie

Well, hi! My name is Kristen and I am on the newer side of things when it comes to blogging. I had a Xanga account while I was in college, but i'd like to think that that doesn't count since some of those entries are more embarrassing than not.

I am 24 years old, and I live in Grand Rapids, MI with my husband, Dorian. We got married this past September. I am absolutely loving being married! People tell me to enjoy this time because it will pass. "It's just a honeymoon stage." I am not sure if or how that will be proved, but I am enjoying the heck out of it while it's here!

I graduated in 2006 with a B.A. in English and Mass Communications and would love to get my Masters in Journalism. Right now, however, I am perfectly content with being a homemaker and working my 8-5 job. I may make a few feminist brains explode with the following sentiment, but I just can't help but love to cook and clean and take care of my husband. He doesn't make it very difficult, though, as he does his fair share. It's easy to want to please someone who would give you the world if they could. Aside from my actually loving to be a wife, I work at iPCS Wireless, Inc. It is an affiliate of Sprint. I work in the Property Department as the Lease Administrator. I love my job!

I was introduced to the actual blogging world by discovering Jen Lancaster's books and her blog. From there, I discovered Amalah, Dooce, All & Sundry and many, many more. Reading through all of these blogs has rekindled a passion for writing that I'd forgotten I have. I always knew that writing a paper was never too difficult for me while I was in school, but I'd never given credit to the fact that that was because I was actually enjoying the writing process. I miss the feeling of a work complete and a job well done.

I'm sure my personality will come through in my writing, but I think if you'd like a quick overview-ish label, I'm relatable to a mix of Rachel and Monica from "Friends". I love that show, by the way. I also love Sex in the City and The Office. I love all things pink and I would drink Starbucks through an IV drip if my wallet and waistline would allow. The fat girl inside of me is frequently whining to come out (she loves donuts, fries, hamburgers, beer, brownies, ice cream, pasta, pancakes, m&m's, and chex mix), but I try to stay pretty healthy. The wedding was good incentive for that and panic at not wanting to re-gain all the weight is my current push to drop a few pounds.

In my free time, you could find me working out, goofing around with my husband, window shopping, visiting friends and family, reading or baking. The fat girl gets her way when I have a bit of down time. Heh.
